In addition to security, VPN speed is another factor to consider in your ideal VPN. Indeed, it takes speed to do everything online. That’s why we used servers from 4 different PureVPN sites to perform a simple VPN speed test. We have compiled our results for you to see. However, we will discuss them briefly.

As always, we started the speed test with the New York server. The performance of the server was not very good, with an upload and download speed of 29 Mbps. In reality, these results are not very inspiring because you need excellent speed to do a lot of things online. Despite this, we have to make it clear that this speed is right. We consider it fair because top-level VPNs have much better VPN speeds.   

Moreover, we have done the same test on the Amsterdam server, leaving the settings constant. We expected the Amsterdam server to have a much better download speed than the New York server, since we recorded 35 Mbps. On the other hand, its upload speed stabilized at 27 Mbps when we ran the test. These results are satisfactory, as they give users a very good experience when accessing the Internet from the European city.

Elsewhere, it was good news all the way, as we performed the speed test on a server located in another European city, London. We saw a massive improvement in speeds. As you can see in the table, we recorded 62 Mbps and 45 Mbps in download and upload speeds respectively. There’s no question that the speeds are the best we’ve seen so far.

Finally, we tested the server in Hong Kong. According to our previous results, the Chinese city still shows very poor performance in terms of speed. As always, we were right about the server in Hong Kong, as the download speed was 6.77 Mbps and the upload speed was stable at 3.62 Mbps. For some reason, Hong Kong servers don’t always have amazing speeds. And when we tested the PureVPN server in Hong Kong, the results were abysmal to say the least. That’s really disturbing.

• Speed Summary

Based on our speed results, we can say that PureVPN doesn’t really have a high speed. Obviously, the London server has the best overall speed result. At the bottom of the scale is the Hong Kong server, which has become the standard when we do speed tests. Looking at the average speed of the four cities we sampled, the average download speed was 33.19 Mbps while the average upload speed was 26.16 Mbps.

From these calculations, it is clear that the speed of PureVPN is quite good. However, it is far from being comparable to the speed of the British pound! But in all honesty, you can still do a lot of fascinating things with these speeds, such as downloading, streaming, uploading, video and voice calls, etc.

More importantly, there are some facts you need to understand about VPN speed. You will probably notice a slight decrease in speed when you connect to PureVPN. There is nothing special about this VPN, as others know it too. In short, this is normal, as VPNs usually slow down the speed of your Internet Service Provider (LAN) when a connection is established.
